RNZ Radio Talks Flour and Dough
When Ellie from RNZ Radio contacted me to ask if I'd like to be included in an interview about small businesses, to say I was nervous is a very small understatement. But of course I said yes — because when RNZ calls, you answer!
Being invited to speak on RNZ Radio about Flour and Dough was one of those moments that made me stop and realise just how far this little baking mix brand had come. What started as a passion project in my kitchen had grown into something people were genuinely interested in — and that meant the world to me.
What We Talked About
Ellie and I covered a lot of ground in our interview. We talked about how Flour and Dough came about, why I started making baking mixes, and where the inspiration for our bread mixes came from. We got into the story behind the keto bread range — how I wanted to create gluten free, low carb bread mixes that actually tasted good, not like cardboard — and the journey of developing recipes that home bakers could make easily and confidently.
We also talked about artisan baking and what it means to make a product that's genuinely crafted with care. Every Flour and Dough baking mix is NZ made, developed with quality ingredients, and designed to make baking accessible to everyone — whether you're an experienced baker or someone who's never baked before.
Going Live on RNZ
Being on RNZ live was quite a treat. There's something special about being able to talk about something that is yours — something you've built from scratch and are genuinely proud of. Talking about artisan baking and NZ-made baking mixes on a platform like RNZ felt like a real milestone for the brand.
Ellie from RNZ was amazing to talk to, and in the end we spoke way more than we should have — a lot more editing was done to fit the time frame than either of us imagined! That's what happens when you get two people who love food and good conversation in the same room.
The Story Behind Flour and Dough
Flour and Dough was born out of a simple idea: that baking should be easy, delicious, and something everyone can enjoy. I wanted to create baking mixes that delivered real results — the kind of brownies, blondies, beer breads, and keto loaves that people would be genuinely proud to serve.
Starting a food business in New Zealand is no small feat. There's recipe development, food safety, packaging, labelling, marketing, and a hundred other things to figure out. But the thing that kept me going was the feedback from customers — people telling me that our brownie mix was the best they'd ever tasted, or that our keto bread had changed their relationship with bread on a low carb diet. That kind of response makes every challenge worth it.
