Flour and Dough Featured in NZ Supermarket News — The Shift Towards Healthy Baking

A while back I was asked if I'd like to take part in a questionnaire for NZ Supermarket News magazine — and obviously I said yes!

Being invited to comment as a NZ food brand on industry trends felt like a real milestone for Flour and Dough. It's one thing to make a product you're proud of; it's another to have industry publications recognise that what you're doing is relevant, timely, and worth talking about.

The Shift Towards Healthier Eating

The question NZ Supermarket News was exploring was one I think about a lot: the growing shift towards healthier food choices among New Zealand consumers. And it's real. People are reading labels more carefully, asking questions about ingredients, and actively seeking out products that align with how they want to eat — whether that's low carb, gluten free, dairy free, or simply less processed.

At Flour and Dough, we've been ahead of this curve from the beginning. When I started developing our baking mixes, I wanted to create products that tasted genuinely delicious but didn't compromise on quality ingredients. No unnecessary additives, no fillers — just real, honest baking mixes that deliver great results.

Where Flour and Dough Fits In

Our keto bread mixes were born out of a personal need. I wanted a low carb bread that actually tasted like bread — not cardboard, not a science experiment, but a proper loaf you'd be proud to slice and serve. The result was our Original Keto Bread Mix, followed by Rosemary & Garlic and Pumpkin & Cashew — all low carb.

But healthy baking at Flour and Dough isn't just about keto. It's about knowing what's in your food. Our brownie mixes, blondie mixes, beer bread mixes, and cookie kits are all made with quality ingredients you can feel good about. We believe that baking from scratch — even from a mix — is always a better choice than reaching for something ultra-processed off the shelf.

What the Industry is Saying

The NZ Supermarket News feature highlighted that health-conscious eating is no longer a niche trend — it's mainstream. Consumers across all age groups are making more intentional food choices, and retailers are responding by stocking more products that meet that demand.

For small NZ food brands like ours, this is an exciting time. There's genuine appetite (pun intended) for locally made, quality products that align with how modern Kiwis want to eat. Being stocked in stores like Stevens and The Market NZ, and being featured in publications like NZ Supermarket News, tells us we're on the right track.
