Spooky Halloween Cookie Ideas — 4-Cookie Small Batch Recipe
As the year draws to an end — yes, it's Term 3 and it's almost done — we start getting prepared for some spooky fun with the neighbours and all the kids! Halloween is one of those occasions where the treats are just as exciting as the trick-or-treating, and this year I've added one of my absolute favourites to the mix.
I know I always say this, but this really is the cutest, spookiest way to do Halloween cookies. And it is so easy you can get the kids to make them — just be careful with the oven!
Why a Small Batch?
This recipe makes just 4 chocolate chip cookies — perfect for when you don't have heaps of ingredients on hand, don't want a full batch, or just need a quick Halloween treat without the fuss. It's especially handy if you're short on time but still want something homemade and special.
Of course, if you want to make a full batch, you can always grab our
What You'll Need
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
- 6 tablespoons flour
- Tiny pinch of salt
- 2 white marshmallows
- Edible googly eyes
Method
- Preheat your oven to 170°C.
- Melt your butter, then add both sugars and mix well.
- Add the egg yolk, baking soda, flour, and salt, and mix until a dough forms.
- Roll into 4 balls and place onto a lined baking tray — they do spread a little, so give them some space.
- Bake for 8 minutes.
- While they're baking, cut your 2 marshmallows in half so you have 4 halves.
- After 8 minutes, remove from the oven and press one marshmallow half onto each cookie, squishing it in slightly.
- Pop back into the oven for 1 more minute.
- Remove from the oven and immediately press edible googly eyes into each marshmallow before they cool.
- Let them cool before eating — the marshmallow gets very hot!
Tips
- Work quickly with the googly eyes — the marshmallow sets fast as it cools!
- Want to make a bigger batch? Use our
Funfetti Sugar Cookie Mix for a full tray of Halloween cookies with minimal effort. - These are best eaten on the day, but will keep in an airtight container for 1–2 days.
- Let the kids decorate — the googly eyes are the best bit and little hands are perfect for the job. 👻
Happy Halloween! 🎃
