Valentine's Day Blondie Bars — The Sweetest Treat to Make with Your Kids
Valentine's Day in our house isn't just about couples — it's a day we celebrate together as a family, in a way that's fun and special for everyone.
I've always wanted to raise a son who will grow up to be respectful and romantic towards his future partner. And one of the best ways I know how to do that is to show him, firsthand, how it's done. So every Valentine's Day, we make it a proper occasion — not an expensive one, but a meaningful one.
The kids cut and colour hearts, do some drawings, maybe hang a few balloons if I have some in the cupboard. This year I'm also sending Valentine's Day Pencil Toppers to my son's class — a fun little ice breaker for a classroom full of new faces. But the food? The food is always centre stage. We get into the kitchen together and make something delicious, usually involving chocolate and strawberries, and always something everyone gets excited about.
This year, I made these Blondie Bars as a trial run — and they came out absolutely perfectly.

What You'll Need
- 1 x Flour and Dough Fudgy Chocolate Blondie Baking Mix
- 1 cup milk chocolate (for melting on top)
- Valentine's Day sprinkles
Method
- Mix and bake the Fudgy Chocolate Blondie Baking Mix as per the instructions on the packet.
-
As soon as it comes out of the oven, either:
- Scatter chopped chocolate pieces over the top of the hot blondies and wait 2 minutes until they start to melt, then spread evenly with a spatula, or
- Melt your chocolate beforehand and pour it straight over the hot blondies, spreading evenly.
- Immediately add your Valentine's Day sprinkles to the top while the chocolate is still warm so they stick.
- Leave to cool completely before slicing — this is important!
- Slice as desired. I cut my 20x20cm block into 8 strips, then cut each strip into 3, giving 24 pieces.
Tips & Tricks
- Use milk chocolate — it melts more easily than white chocolate. I tried half with white chocolate and it just didn't work for me.
- Add sprinkles immediately onto the still-hot chocolate so they stick and don't fall off once it sets.
- Wait until completely cooled before slicing — patience pays off with a clean, beautiful cut every time.
Storage
- Up to 5 days in an airtight container at room temperature.
- These freeze beautifully — I currently have mine frozen and they're still perfect after a month!
Make It a Family Affair
This is such a lovely recipe to make with kids. The blondie mix does all the hard work, and the chocolate topping and sprinkles are the fun part — little hands are perfect for scattering sprinkles! It's a great way to spend Valentine's Day morning together before the celebrations begin.
And if you're looking for a fun classroom treat, pair these with our Valentine's Day Pencil Toppers — downloadable from our homepage currently — for a sweet and thoughtful gift that any child would love.
